FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Saga Prism.

General

What is Saga Prism?

Saga Prism is a collaborative fiction platform where writers and readers come together to create and experience stories — from traditional prose to visual web novels and multi-media narratives. More details coming soon.

How do I get started?

Create an account, complete the short onboarding to set up your profile and interests, then start exploring stories or build your own. Use the Explore page to discover stories, or open the Storyboard from your Dashboard to start writing.

How do collaborations work?

The story author can invite other users as contributors with assigned roles (Co-Author, Editor, Illustrator, etc.). Contributors can access and edit the story through the Storyboard. Stories can also be forked — creating a new independent copy that branches from the original. Full collaboration documentation is coming soon.

Can I delete my story?

Yes — the original author of a story can delete it at any time from their profile page. Deleted stories are not immediately gone; they go into a 30-day trash bin visible only to you. During that window you can restore the story if you change your mind. After 30 days the story is permanently removed. Only the story's creator has the ability to delete or restore it.

Account, Shards & Subscriptions

Is Saga Prism free to use?

The core platform — reading and writing stories — is free. Subscription tiers with additional features (such as expanded storage, priority visibility, and premium badges) will be announced closer to our full launch. Check the Bulletin for updates.

What are Shards?

Shards are Saga Prism's platform currency. You earn Shards by engaging with the community — publishing stories, receiving likes, and supporting other writers. Shards can be spent to highlight or promote stories, unlock certain features, and support creators directly. The full Shards economy will be detailed at launch.

What does a subscription include?

Subscription details are still being finalized. Planned perks include increased file upload limits, additional customization options for your profile and stories, and a subscriber badge. No subscription will ever be required to read or write on the platform.

How do I change my username or avatar?

Visit your Account page to update your display name, avatar, bio, and preferences. Username changes are reflected immediately across the platform.

Storyboard Editor

How does the Storyboard editor work?

The Storyboard is Saga Prism's story editor. Stories are organized into Chapters and Pages (sections). Each page can contain text blocks, images, and other content. Use the ribbon toolbar at the top to switch between Production, Text Design, Media, and Publishing tabs — each controls a different aspect of your story's presentation.

What template types are available?

Currently available templates are Manuscript (traditional prose), Scroll, Paper, and Terminal. Each template controls the visual theme of your story in the reader. Additional templates including JRPG and Comic styles are in development.

How does audio narration work?

You can attach an audio narration track to any individual page of your story. Audio is stored per-page, so you can narrate each section independently.

To add narration in the editor:

  1. Navigate to the page you want to narrate using the chapter/page sidebar.
  2. Open the Media tab in the ribbon toolbar.
  3. In the Narration group you will see two options:
    • Upload — choose an existing audio file from your device (mp3, wav, ogg, webm, or aac, up to 100 MB).
    • Record — record directly from your microphone in the browser. Click Record to start, then Stop when finished. The recording uploads automatically.
  4. Once uploaded, a preview player appears. You can replace or remove the audio at any time.
  5. Save your story — the narration is now attached to that page.

In the reader: An audio player bar appears at the bottom of any page that has narration attached. Readers can play, pause, and scrub through the audio while reading.

Syncing sentences to audio (Sync Mode): After uploading narration, click the ⏱ Sync button. A panel opens showing your page text split into individual sentences. Click Start Playing — the audio begins. Press Space (or the Next → button) at the moment the narrator finishes each highlighted sentence. Once you've tapped through all sentences, click Save Sync. In the reader, the matching sentence will glow as the audio reaches it.

Coming soon: Automatic page turning when audio finishes. Word-level (rather than sentence-level) highlighting is also planned.

How do I add images to my story?

Open the Media tab and use the Art group to insert an inline image block. You can upload an image from your device. Once inserted, select the image block to access layer controls — set it as a background image, floating left/right, or inline. Images are resized and converted to WebP automatically for fast loading.

How does auto-save work?

The Storyboard auto-saves periodically while you write. You can also save manually at any time using the Save button in the ribbon. It is recommended to save before closing the tab.

What does "Publish" do?

Publishing a story makes it visible to readers on the Explore page and your public profile. Before publishing, use the Publishing tab to set your story's tags, description, cover art, and content flags (Mature Language, Contains Audio). You can un-publish a story at any time by removing the published date.

Copyright & Legal

Who owns the content I publish?

You retain full ownership of your original work. By publishing on Saga Prism you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, and reproduce your content on the platform and in promotional materials. We will never sell or claim ownership of your stories. You can delete your content at any time.

Can I publish fan fiction or derivative works?

Fan fiction of published works is permitted as long as it is clearly labeled and does not claim to be official content. You are responsible for ensuring your work complies with the original creator's guidelines. Saga Prism does not mediate disputes between creators and rights holders, but will respond to valid DMCA takedown requests.

What content is not allowed?

The following content is not permitted on Saga Prism:

  • Content that sexualizes minors in any form.
  • Real-person fiction that is defamatory, sexually explicit, or presented as factual.
  • Content that promotes violence, hate, or illegal activity.
  • Plagiarized content or work that infringes on another creator's copyright.
  • Spam or artificially generated content with no creative value.

Mature language and themes (violence, adult situations) are permitted with the appropriate content flag set in the Publishing tab. Full community guidelines will be published at launch.

How do I report infringing or inappropriate content?

Use the feedback button (available on any page while signed in) to submit a report. Include the story title or URL and a description of the issue. DMCA takedown requests should be sent to the contact address listed in our Terms of Service. We aim to respond within 72 hours.

What about AI-generated content?

Saga Prism is primarily a platform for human-authored creative work. AI-assisted writing (using AI as a tool to draft or refine human-directed work) is permitted, but stories that are wholly AI-generated with no meaningful human creative input are subject to removal. Full policy details will be included in the community guidelines at launch.
